Subfloor preparation

Vinyl shows every lump, dip and board line underneath it. We always level the floor first. It’s why our floors stay flat for years, and why some cheaper quotes leave it out.

Self-levelling (latex): a smoothing compound poured over concrete or old floors that settles out flat and dries hard.
Ply boarding: thin plywood sheets screwed down over floorboards so gaps and board lines don’t show through.

Prep is shown as its own line on your quote, estimated and confirmed at survey. If extra levelling is needed once the old floor is up, it’s charged per bag used, and we’ll show you before carrying on.

We cut carefully around toilets, pedestals and kitchen units, finish doorways with the right trims, and seal edges in wet areas.

Why is subfloor prep a separate line on my quote?

Because every floor is different. We estimate the self-levelling or ply boarding at the quote, and confirm it at survey. If extra levelling is needed once the old floor is up, it’s charged per bag used, and we’ll show you first. It’s what keeps the new floor flat for years.

Can vinyl go over my old floor?

Sometimes. Old tiles that are flat and sound can be overlaid with ply. We don’t lift old tiles or black adhesive that may contain asbestos, so we’ll advise you on the safe option.

Do I need to remove the toilet?

Usually not. We cut neatly around it.

How long does a bathroom take?

Most bathrooms take [a few hours], longer if the floor needs smoothing first.
