Subfloor prep: the part of the job that makes the floor last
Uneven boards, old adhesive and dips in concrete all show through a new floor. We self-level or ply board first, so whatever goes down on top stays flat.

Self-levelling
On concrete or old screed, we use a levelling compound to fill dips and give a smooth, flat base. It’s essential under vinyl and LVT, where every bump shows.
Ply boarding
On timber floorboards, we fix ply sheets to stop board lines showing through and to give a firm, even surface.
Shown clearly on your quote
Prep is its own line on your quote, estimated at the visit and confirmed at survey. If extra levelling is needed once the old floor is up, we’ll show you before we carry on.
Prep only
Laying the floor yourself or using another fitter? We can do the prep on its own. Just ask.
Questions about this service
Do I always need prep?
No. Many floors are fine as they are. We check at the quote and only recommend what your floor needs.
How long does levelling take to dry?
Usually a few hours before fitting, depending on the compound and the depth. We plan it into the day.
Can you prep for a floor I bought myself?
Yes. Prep works with our fit-only service.
